Meet the Lawrence Family

Parents Heather and Shawn Lawrence checked in to the Ronald McDonald House as dsc_0212returning residents. They stayed here a few years prior when son, Bo, was born early. On Oct. 22, Heather delivered her daughter, Ava, five weeks early. Unfortunately, she had breathing problems and jaundice. They were glad to return to the House, but also worried while trying to stay hopeful their daughter would recover.

“We felt like we were at a second home,” said Shawn Lawrence.

“It was very comforting getting to check in for the second time. It was a huge weight lifted off of our shoulders.”

Big brother Bo was also just as grateful to stay at the Ronald McDonald House. “Bo loves staying here and calls it the ‘McDonald House!’”

Brothers and sisters are always welcome considering the House has a play room and teen lounge offering tons of toys and games like air hockey, basketball throw board games and various other stuffed animals and toys.

After Ava grew healthy enough to return home, they checked out on Halloween after staying at the House for five nights.

This Holiday Season: Get Involved & Pay It Forward

During the holidays at Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Greater Chattanooga, we have a lot going on! Whether it’s by attending events or making a donation, there are so many ways to give back to our RMHC families. We’ve highlighted different events and promotions in which you can give back:

November 15: Breakfast with Santa

You can show up the morning of the Breakfast with Santa to purchase your ticket.
A ticket is required for each person.

Santa’s Workshop

Weeks prior to Christmas, the Community Room, located inside the Ronald McDonald House, will be transformed into Santa’s Workshop! Families will be allowed to come in each night and choose three items until Christmas Eve. On Christmas Eve, there will be no limit to number of presents each family can take.
See what we need on Santa’s Wish List here: RMHC Holiday Wish List
If you’re part of an organization that would like to volunteer or collects items for families in need, think of our families this year! If you or your group are collecting items for Santa’s Workshop, please contact Tiffany Cobb at or (423) 778-4338 to schedule a drop-off time/date.
We’re sorry we cannot accept any used toys.

Hearts of Gold

Share your heart this holiday season with the purchase of our 2014 Hearts of Gold ornament!
RMHC of Greater Chattanooga’s 2014 “Hearts of Gold” ornament is available to purchase online for a minimum donation of $15. All proceeds will benefit families of seriously ill or injured children at the local RMHC in Chattanooga.
This year’s ornament is an angel symbolizing even in the most difficult times, no one is alone. Family members near and far, a sick patient, and loved ones are truly together in spirit. RMHC is proud to be an important part of the healing process of family-centered care. The gifts, prayers, and support of so many have made it possible for RMHC to make each family feel at home during a difficult time in their life.
Each year, the “Hearts of Gold” fundraiser highlights the story of a child and family served by an RMHC program. The purchase of the 2014 “Hearts of Gold” ornament is a gift dedicated to helping struggling children and their families. It represents the gifts of chance, togetherness, and hope to thousands of children and families served by RMHC.
